Cards take out SEC foe Ole Miss 5-3

The University of Louisville baseball team won a battle of teams who played in the College World Series last season with a 5-3 victory over Mississippi on Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Cardinals are now 11-5 on the season.

In a battle of two teams that made it to the College World Series last season, the University of Louisville baseball team was best on this day.

The Cardinals scored a run in five innings and posted a 5-3 victory over Mississippi in the first of a mid-week two-game series on Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Freshman Devin Hairston had two RBIs, while redshirt freshman Blake Tiberi smashed a solo home run and another freshman - Lincoln Henzman - picked up the victory.

U of L (11-5) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings and still led 4-3 when Tiberi smashed his third home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh.

Henzman moved his record to 2-0 with 1.2 innings of relief when he allowed two hits and one run. Freshman Brendan McKay worked a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save.

The tow teams will play again on Wednesday with a 3 o'clock first pitch.
