Louisville defeats Georgia Tech 4-1

No.6 Louisville defeated visiting Georgia Tech 4-1 early Friday evening to take the first game of the three-game ACC series. The Cardinals improved to an ACC best 9-1 in conference play.

University of Louisville junior All-American Kyle Funkhouser threw seven strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits, while striking out seven to help lead the Cardinals to a 4-1 victory.

The Cardinals, who outhit the Yellow Jackets 10 to 6, received multi-hit outings from Nick Solak, including his eighth double of the season, and Danny Rosenbaum, who went 2-for-4 at the plate. Will Smith drove in two runs, with Sutton Whiting, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and Corey Ray also recording RBIs.

Zach Burdi collected his fourth save of the year, allowing just one hit in 1.2 innings.

In his last three starts, Kyle Funkhouser is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 21.0 innings pitched.

The two teams will play again on Saturday and Sunday, with both contests scheduled to begin at 1:00p.m. Admission to Jim Patterson Stadium is free.
