Louisville lands TE commitment

The University of Louisville football staff added a verbal commitment from the Class of 2016 over the weekend, landing a commit from Stevenson, Ala., North Jackson tight end Austin Cummins. He's the seventh commitment in the Class of 2016 for the Cardinals.

The University of Louisville football staff has a seventh verbal commitment in the Class of 2016 on the board after landing Stevenson, Ala., North Jackson tight end Austin Cummins.

Cummins, who was at U of L for Junior Day earlier this month, picked the Cardinals this weekend over Southern Miss and Western Kentucky.

The 6-foot-6, 225-pound Cummins is considered a sleeper in the state of Alabama, which has become a major priority for the U of L staff. The Cardinals have five guys in the Class of 2015 from the state of Alabama.

Cummins, who said he knew from the time he left U of L's Junior Day that he was likely going to commit, made the decision after visiting Southern Miss on Saturday.

He's in the mold of the bigger, athletic tight ends that U of L coach Bobby Petrino is known for liking. He's the first tight end commitment in the '16 class.

U of L's recruiting class in 16 currently ranked No. 24 nationally by Scout.com.
