Spring Football Report Card: Practice #6

Cardinal Authority will be there for each and every University of Louisville spring football practice over the next few weeks and will have reports from each. Here's our report card from day six.

Another day, another spirited practice with a lot of intensity.

The Louisville Cardinals do a lot of the same thins each day but this day there was more work on punt and punt returns than any other part of special teams.

The starters on offense and defense went at it a lot in 7-on-7 this day with the lines working on a drill when the defense tries to get to the QB - which is a large looking apparatus with a dummy hanging from it.

It was a windy practice outside on Wednesday night, which made it tough on the quarterbacks and the wide receivers. It was a defensive-minded practice because of the wind.

The Cardinals have one more practice this week - on Friday afternoon - before a controlled scrimmage on Saturday morning around 9:45 a.m.

Kahlil Hunter, Offensive line

Hunter is a junior-college addition and is being used in several spots, including at center and guard. He was running first-team as a guard on Wednesday and looks like he could be a major addition to the roster.

U of L coach Bobby Petrino and offensive coordinator Garrick McGee have both mentioned Hunter as a key addition and it appears he could crack the starting lineup.

Cornelius Sturghill, defensive back

Sturghill was listed as a wide receiver late last season and the staff had been high on him on the offensive side of the ball. But since then he's made the switch.

Sturghill is listed as the starting right cornerback and he made several outstanding plays in 7-on-7 on Wednesday. He's learning the position still and making a lot of plays already. He's going to push to be a starter for the Cardinals.

Todd Grantham, Defensive coordinator

I'm really pleased with our effort and energy. The guys have really come out with the focus to work hard every day and get better. You improvement in all the guys."
