North Carolina LB GETS OFFER
Three-star linebacker Jonathon Smith of Scoutland, N.C., High School landed scholarship offer No. 14 on Thursday when Louisville extended him one.
The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Smith is ranked as the No. 8 middle linebacker in the country by Scout.com and also has offers from Michigan, Duke, North Carolina and Georgia Tech among others. Those are the four schools he said are after him the hardest.
Smith is also hearing from Clemson, Georgia and others.
As a junior, Smith was named the All-Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was honored on the All-Region and All-State team.
VISITORS EXPECTED AT PRACTICE
U of L is expecting some solid visitors this weekend for spring practice.
Cincinnati La Salle 2016 athlete Jeremy Larkin and Chicago Arlington Hills 2017 tight end Cole Kmet are expected at some point this weekend, perhaps on Friday.
Larkin, whose father is the cousin of former Cincinnati Reds All-Star Barry Larkin, was a finalist for Ohio Mr. Football by the Associated Press as a junior when he rushed for just under 3,000 yards on the season.
Kmet is 6-fot-6, 240-pound junior-to-be tight end.
Logan Klusman, a top 2016 long snapper from Lafayette, La., is also expected this weekend. He's ranked as the No. 9 long snapper in the country by Chris Sailer Kicking.
TAMPA DE GETS OFFER FROM CARDS
Keldric Preston, one of the premier players in the Tampa, Fla., area, has landed an offer from the Louisville staff. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end attends Tampa Robinson.
It was a two-day offer for Preston, who landed one from Wisconsin earlier in the day.
Preston also has offers from Miami, Mississippi State, Rutgers, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and several others.
As a junior, Preston had 40 tackles and five sacks.
UK COMMIT LANDS U OF L OFFER
Columbus, Ohio, Worthington Killborne wide receiver Dakota Holtzclaw, a current Kentucky commitment, has added an offer from U of L.
The 6-foot-7, 215-pound Holtzclaw is a three-star prospect who committed to UK on March 1. He also had offers from Cincinnati, Duke, Miami (Ohio), Ohio U., Bowling Green, Toledo, Western Michigan and several others prior to making his commitment.
WOLFPACK COMMIT GETS A LOUISVILLE OFFER
Lawrenceville, Ga., Archer defensive tackle Kobe Smith, who has been committed to North Carolina State since early December, now has an offer from U of L.
The 6-foot-4, 310-pound Smith picked N.C. State over Georgia Tech, Indiana and Iowa and since has other offers from Mississippi State and Tennessee.
Smith is a three-star prospect.
GEORGIA QB NOW HAS U OF L ON LIST
Logan Byrd was a Virginia Tech commitment for about six months, but last month re-opened the recruitment and this week added an offer from Louisville.
A three-star quarterback out of Kathleen (Ga.) Veterans High School, Byrd has also added offers from Arkansas, Kansas State and Kentucky in recent weeks.
Byrd has passed for over 2,500 yards in the past two seasons.
*****Collinsville, Okla., 2017 linebacker Levi Draper landed an offer from Louisville. He has more than 200 tackles combined the past two seasons.
*****Norcross, Ga., Greater Atlanta Christian 2017 quarterback Davis Mills now holds an offer from U of L. The Cardinals were the second offer for Mills, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound QB who picked up a West Virginia offer last month. Mills is making a visit to Arizona State this week and is expected to come to U of L soon.
*****St. Louis Lafayette tight end/defensive end Brendan Scales landed offers from Louisville and Missouri this week. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Scales is now in double-digits for offers, including Michigan State and Nebraska.
*****Atlanta Mays cornerback Monquavion Brinson added a U of L offer to a list that also includes Kentucky, Cincinnati, Colorado State and Georgia Southern.
*****Mayer Lutheran, Minn., offensive tackle Sam Schlueter was offered by U of L and also has offers from Michigan State, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa State and Minnesota. The 6-foot-6, 275-pound Schlueter is a three-star prospect.
*****Maurice Chandler, a cornerback from Lawton, Okla., who is now at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, said Louisville was his eighth offer earlier this week. He also has offers from Arizona State, Memphis, Nebraska and Toledo. He had been committed to Texas Tech before going to NE Oklahoma where he had 22 tackles and two picks last season.
