Louisville visit impressed 3-star LB Evans

Lawrenceville, Ga., Archer linebacker Donta Evans picked up a scholarship offer from the University of Louisville last month. On Tuesday, the three-star linebacker made a visit to Louisville and checked out a spring practice. Cardinal Authority has a recap:

Lawrenceville, Ga., Archer linebacker Donta Evans knew he liked University of Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and his defensive system.

But Evans said the Louisville program, campus and city "really impressed me more than I thought it would," during a Tuesday visit to U of L spring practice.

"I watched them play Florida State like they did last season, so I knew they were a program on the come up," Evans said. "But I didn't know the city was as big as it was and the facilities and campus were so gorgeous.

"I really enjoyed everything that I saw."

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Evans said his family was a little late because of traffic but he got to watch practice and spent some time with Grantham.

"He's a great person," Evans said of Grantham. "I really learned a lot and I really liked what I saw. Overall, it was a great visit."

Evans has also made visits to Ohio State and Illinois this week, landing an offer from the Illini on the visit. He said he might stop by Tennessee tomorrow.

He also has offers from Auburn, Kentucky, North Carolina State and North Carolina. But Evans talked like this wouldn't be the last he would see the U of L campus.

"I will probably be back at Louisville over the summer and probably also set up an official visit (for the fall)," he said.

Evans, who recently moved to Georgia from South Carolina, earned First Team All-State honors following a stellar junior season at Lake Marion that saw him total 162 tackles, including 32 for a loss.
