The University of Louisville baseball team stayed hot on Friday night with a 1-0 win over Duke in an ACC game in Durham, N.C.
U of L (26-7, 15-1) has now won eight straight games overall and 14 consecutive in ACC play. The Cardinals are four games up on Florida State in the division.
It was the 122nd straight game the Cardinals won when leading in the ninth inning. The Cardinals now have six shutouts this season and the staff has delivered 21 straight shutout innings and U of L has played 83 consecutive innings against foes ACC without trailing.
Funkhouser struck out eight and allowed just four hits and one walk in an outing that coach Dan McDonnell said was "one of his better performances."
Freshman Lincoln Henzman worked a perfect eighth inning before Zach Burdi closed the game with his fourth save of the season.
In the seventh inning, freshman Brendan McKay started with a walk and moved to second on an error before going to third on a sacrifice bunt by Will Smith. Tiberi then singled to right to score the only run of the game.
U of L and Duke will play on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.
