Ralph Willard to replace Wyking Jones?

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino is looking at former U of L assistant Ralph Willard to fill a spot on his coaching staff. Willard has not accepted the position, which became vacant when Wyking Jones left.

Is Ralph Willard returning to the bench at the University of Louisville?

It's not official yet but two sources tell Cardinal Authority he's the likely replacement for Wyking Jones, who is leaving to take a position at California.

Willard, who was previously an assistant under Pitino at U of L, is one of the best friends of the Hall of Fame coach. A decision is likely on Monday.

The 69-year-old Willard also served as an assistant under Pitino at Kentucky and with the New York Knicks. Willard was the head coach previously at Western Kentucky, Pittsburgh and Holy Cross - in all for 19 seasons.

Willard's son, Kevin, is the coach at Seton Hall and was also an assistant under Pitino.

Willard has been a scout in the NBA since leaving U of L after the 2011 season.
