Among the many future and past Cardinals at the the University of Louisville spring game on Friday was a car ride that included both.
Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge cornerback Baylen Buchanan, one of U of L's six current commitments for 2016, was joined by his father Ray, a former Cardinal, on his visit for the Red-White scrimmage.
"It was fun," he told Cardinal Authority. "It was worth it. I like the vibe. It just felt like home."
While his father mingled with other former U of L greats near the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex, Baylen, who is rated among the nation's top 50 cornerbacks by Scout.com, watched the game with the more than 70 recruits in the stands of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. He also spent time visiting with members of the coaching staff.
"The offense looked great," he said. "I like to watch my position. I like to see their coverages and their stances and how I would fit in with their scheme."
His discussion with the coaches focused on his pledge to the Cardinals program. Buchanan, who has made recent visits with Georgia, Georgia Tech and Tennessee, confirmed his commitment to U of L during his visit and explained that he wants to be sure of his decision and enjoy the recruiting process.
"I talked to Coach Buckley, Coach Grantham and Coach Petrino," he said. "They wanted to see how I am with my recruitment and stuff like that.
"It's going good. I'm just enjoying it while I can. I just want to evaluate every school fairly."
Part of that process is building relationships, something that continues to grow with the Cardinals staff.
"I talk to Coach Grantham like every week," said the three-star prospect. "I talk to Coach Buckley and I can hit Coach Petrino up whenever I want. I have a pretty cool relationship with all of them."
Buchanan also holds scholarship offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Iowa, Wake Forest and others.
Louisville has also offered Peachtree Ridge running back Malik Staples.
"He's like my best friend," said Buchanan. "He's like my brother."
