James Sample selected by Jaguars in 4th round

Safety James Sample became the fifth former University of Louisville player picked in the NFL Draft when he was selected in the fourth round by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Sample, who left U of L with another season of eligibility to play, was the No. 104 pick.

Former University of Louisville safety James Sample became the fifth former Cardinal picked in the NFL Draft on Saturday.

Sample was the No. 104 pick overall - fourth round - and was selected by the Jaguars. He was the fifth pick of the day.

The 6-foot-2, 209-pound Sample, who came to U of L by way of a transfer from the University of Washington and a year at junior college, led the Cardinals in tackles with 90 and had 74 solo tackles. He also had four interceptions.

Sample, who is originally from Sacramento, Calif., left U of L after only one season and with one year of eligibility left.

He's the fifth U of L player picked. DeVante Parker was a first round pick by the Dolphins, followed by Jamon Brown (Rams), Lorenzo Mauldin (Jets) and John Miller (Bills) all were picked in the fourth round.
