HRs bring Louisville back against FSU

The University of Louisville baseball team fought back from a 5-0 deficit to claim a 6-5 victory and win the series against Florida State on Sunday at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Cardinals are 40-12 on the season, 23-4 in the ACC and have won 11 straight series.

The University of Louisville baseball team did it again, winning a come-from-behind game against Florida State on Sunday at Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Cardinals (40-12, 23-4 ACC) rallied from 5-0 down in the sixth inning and won 6-5 when Will Smith smashed a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth.

Nick Solak had a three-run home run in the seventh Zach Burdi (4-0) worked the final two innings for the victory.

The Cardinals clinched the ACC Atlantic Division on Saturday and with the win on Sunday gained an 11th straight series victory, including nine in a row in the ACC. The Cardinals are ranked as high as No. 2 in the polls.

No. 7 Florida State (37-16, 17-10) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning against starter Josh Rogers and added three more in the sixth inning.

But Zach Lucas and Blake Tiberi had two-out RBI singles in the sixth to cut it to 5-2. Solak hit a three-run home run in the seventh to tie the game.

Smith then drove a 2-1 fast ball over the wall in left for the game-winning run. It was the former KCD stars first career home run.

U of L will host No. 8 Vanderbilt on Tuesday night at 6 and play at N.C. State on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the final games of the regular season.
