USA Basketball has Louisville connections

Several players with connections to the University of Louisville women's basketball team and head coach Jeff Walz are in Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend trying out for USA Basketball teams. Here's the latest:

University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz is in Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend but it's not for a vacation.

Walz is an assistant coach on the USA Basketball Women's U19 World Championship Team and he's there for the tryouts.

But Walz isn't alone because there's several other players with U of L connections.

Among those trying out for the U19 team will be U of L freshman Mariya Moore, who led the team in scoring last season, and incoming freshman Asia Durr.

Moore was a member of the All-ACC freshman team, while Durr is considered the top player nationally in the Class of 2015.

Also trying out for the U19 team will be three U of L targets: Lauren Cox, Natalie Chou, Destiny Slocum and DiJonai Carrington.

Cox is a 6-foot-4 forward considered the No. 1 player in the '16 class from Flower Mound, Tx., while Carrington is a 6-foot guard from San Diego and Chou a 6-1 forward from Plano, Tx. Both are top prospects in '16. Slocum is a 5-7 guard from Meridian, Id., and a '16 target.

Another U of L freshman - Myisha Hines-Allen - is also in Colorado Springs for the Pan American Games team trials.
