With his home just across the Ohio River, New Albany (Ind.) junior pitcher Austin Dickey gets a chance to spend some time watching his future college team practice and play.
And this weekend it was in the NCAA Tournament.
Dickey, who committed to the University of Louisville last July, spent some time at Jim Patterson Stadium watching the Cardinals play in the regional round of the NCAA Tournament.
"This is awesome," Dickey said. "It's so amazing being right here at home. I know so many people and I can watch this team and see how it's coming together. It's just all so awesome.
"I've had a lot of fun."
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Dickey said he had to sit out this season after transferring from Providence. But said he's "really improved" and is ready to get going with some summer ball.
Dickey said his fastball is up over 90 MPH and is "around 91-92 most of the time".
"I can't wait to get back out there," Dickey said."I've picked up more velo and all of that, so now it's just a matter of trying to get stronger and hitting spots.
"There's always room for improvement but I like where I'm at."
