Mahmoud sidelined with minor knee injury

University of Louisville sophomore forward Anas Mahmoud will have surgery on his left knee tomorrow morning to repair a torn medial meniscus. He's expected to be back on the court in the next 4-6 weeks for the Cardinals.

Anas Mahmoud will have minor knee surgery on Thursday morning.

Mahmoud, a sophomore on the University of Louisville basketball team, twisted his knee while playing basketball recently. When he returned to U of L for this semester of summer school he had the knee looked at and an MRI was taken on the knee. The injry was announced on Wednesday night in a release by U of L.

U of L team physician Dr. John Ellis will perform the surgery at Jewish Hospital East. He is expected to be playing with the Cardinals’ games during their visit to Puerto Rico on August 10-17.

The 7-foot Mahmoud, a native of Egypt, played in 29 games for the Cardinals last season and finished with 35 points, 41 rebounds and 20 blocked shots.
