Cards involved with top PG from Texas

There's a new name on the radar for the University of Louisville basketball staff. The Cardinals are looking for a big-time guard and have turned their attention to Katy, Texas, guard Kameron McGusty, who led the Under Armour circuit in scoring this spring. Here's what McGusty said about the interest.

Katy, Texas guard Kameron McGusty was one of the stars of the Under Armour circuit this spring and has seen his offer list rise to close to 20.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound McGusty also has a bevy of other schools interested, including the University of Louisville.

"Coach (Kenny) Johnson and I have been texting a lot," McGusty said. "I like him and that's a big-time program. They're one of the best and I'm excited to get to know them.

"He said they were going to be out to watch me a lot this summer."

McGusty, who plays for the Houston Defenders during the spring and summer, led the Under Armour circuit with 23 points a game this spring. He plays high school ball for Seven Lakes.

McGusty has offers from Indiana, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Auburn, Rice, Houston, Boise State, Northern Iowa, Texas Tech, Middle Tennessee State, Tulsa and others.

But he said interest from U of L does catch his attention.

"Coach Johnson said they're going to lose a scoring guard and need to replace him," McGusty said. "I know it's a great program and coach (Rick) Pitino has a great record. Even if they're not a top 10 team one year, you know they're still going to be good.

"Louisville is a program up there with Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky, so I want to get to know them more and learn more about the program."

In 12 games with the Defenders this spring, McGusty shot 49.5 percent from the field and 82.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Cardinal Authority will keep you posted on the recruitment of McGusty.
