adidas unveils new Louisville uniforms

Cardinal Authority is counting down the days until the University of Louisville football team starts the season on Sept. 5 against Auburn in the Chick-Fil-A Classic at the Georgia Dome. It's 72 days before the game and we look at the new look that adidas created for the Cardinals this fall.

While kickoff for Louisville's opener against Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic is still more than two months away, adidas pumped a little energy into the coming season with the unveiling of a new look for the Cardinals in 2015.

Using the hashtag #UNCAGED, adidas turned to twitter on Thursday morning to give fans their first look at the new Louisville design, which includes everything from cleats and socks to the helmet. The new U of L look is also featured as the profile and header graphic on the official adidas football account, adidasFballUS.

The official release explains that "the helmet features the new Uncaged Cardinal on one side, while a chrome and red English "L" pays homage to Louisville’s heritage on the other side. Further infusing the new theme, the shoulders of the jersey feature chrome and red wings – symbolizing the Uncaged Cardinal in flight, which accent the chrome lettering and numbering outlined in bold red on the jersey, while the pants showcase a chrome and red English "L" on the left leg to match the helmet."

The new uniforms are part of the new adidas Primeknit technology.

"Made with a cutting-edge, proprietary yarn blend that increases durability and abrasion resistance, Primeknit is the newest generation of the adidas TECHFIT football uniform system," the release continued. "Primeknit keeps players cool and increases range of motion, giving athletes an unrivaled level of comfort and allowing them to perform at their highest levels. The jersey's redesigned padlock system improves tension over the shoulder pads. The jersey's redesigned padlock system improves tension over the shoulder pads, while the compression fit adheres to the player, making it difficult for opponents to grab, hold or tackle."
