Fultz a prime target for Louisville

When the July live recruiting period begins, you can bet the University of Louisville basketball coaches are not going to stray too far away from Markelle Fultz. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Hyattsville, Md., DeMatha Catholic is one of the prime 2016 targets for U of L.

The University of Louisville basketball staff has made it clear to Hyattsville, Md., DeMatha Catholic guard Markelle Fultz that he's a top priority on the Class of 2016.

And the Cardinals are likely to back that up in July.

Fultz said he expects to see a lot of the U of L coaches during the three evaluation periods and said he's really enjoyed getting to know more about the Cardinals' program.

"They see me as a versatile point guard," he said. "I have a great relationship with coach Kenny (Johnson). My trainer - Keith Williams - knows him and has told me just how good of a guy he is."

Fultz holds offers from the likes of Maryland, Louisville, Arizona, Xavier, Ohio State, Kansas, UVA, Georgetown, Memphis, Miami, West Virginia, FSU and others. He also mentioned North Carolina as new interest.

During the spring on the Under Armour circuit, Fultz averaged 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2 steals a game.
