Radcliff is “the guy” for Louisville

Cardinal Authority is counting down the days until the University of Louisville football team starts the season on Sept. 5 against Auburn in the Chick-Fil-A Classic at the Georgia Dome. It's 70 days before the game and we look at how junior running back Brandon Radcliff wants to be the face of the program.

The University of Louisville football team has several key returning players who could be termed the face of the program.

But there’s one guy the U of L coaching staff has singled out several times as one of the leaders of the team – Brandon Radcliff.

The sophomore running back will start in the backfield and is hoping to carry the load in the running game and in the leadership department.

”I’m excited to be that guy,” Radcliff said. “But that doesn’t mean I have to stop working. I still have to get better every day and keep improving.

”I think because I am that guy, I have to work even harder.”

The 5-foot-9, 214-pound Radcliff played in 12 games as a freshman in 2013 and gained 90 yards with one touchdown. He started fie of 13 games last season and led the Cardinals in rushing with 737 yards and 12 TDs.

Radcliff had three 100-yard gains for the Cardinals and several big plays. He said as a leader he wants others to follow.

”Big plays are contagious,” he said. “I want to have as many as possible.”
