Cards offer '17 SG Mitchell

The University of Louisville basketball staff has extended the first scholarship offer after the initial evaluation period of July on Monday, offering Hinesville, Ga., 2017 guard Davion Mitchell. The No. 19 ranked player in the '17 class, Mitchell has a huge Peach Jam.

Hinesville, Ga., 2017 guard Davion Mitchell, named one of the top performers of the first evaluation period of July by the Scout.com staff, has landed an offer from the University of Louisville.

U of L assistant coach Kenny Johnson watched Mitchell several times. He's the first player the Cardinals' have offered after the evaluation period and just the eighth offer of a player in the Class of 2017.

The 6-foot-1 Mitchell is listed as the No. 19 player in the '17 class by Scout.com.

Scout analyst Brian Snow said this about Mitchell after his first game with the Georgia Stars last week at Peach Jam: "The raw numbers were good for Mitchell, but the potential is even better. Odds are he never ends up as a true point guard, but defensively he should be one of the best in the nation before it is all said and done, and on the offensive end he can score in a variety of ways, but is at his best attacking and using his big time athleticism and strength."

Mitchell has also added offers from Florida, Florida International, Wake Forest, Connecticut and Georgia since the weekend. He previously had offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, Memphis, SMU and Tulane.
