McGusty to narrow his list

SUWANEE, Ga. - One of the top University of Louisville basketball targets in the Class of 2016 - Kameron McGusty - will narrow his list of colleges this weekend. McGusty is playing in the Under Armour Association finals with the Houston Defenders and then said he will chop his list of schools to "either three or five."

With University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino and assistant Ralph Willard watching, Katy, Tx., guard Kameron McGusty played two games with the Houston Defender on Thursday at the Under Armour Association finals.

"Pretty good," McGusty said about his showing.

The Defenders went 1-1 and McGusty announced that he's ready to take a step towards his college decision. McGusty will announce a list of schools that is narrowed to "three or five" this weekend.

"I am narrowing it down," McGusty said. "I am honestly not sure right now, either three or five. But I know I want to cut it down and focus on those schools. There's a lot of schools right now."

McGusty, who led the UA circuit with 23 points a game during the spring events, also has offers from Oklahoma, Texas, USC, Florida, Missouri, USC, Kansas State, Texas Tech and Wake Forest, among others.

U of L assistant coach Kenny Johnson started recruiting McGusty several months ago and he landed the U of L offer late last month after a strong day at the NBA Players' Association top 100 camp before an ankle injury sidelined him the rest of the week.

"I talked with coach Pitino about what I can come in and do," he said. "It's a good fit but I just have to make sure I keep all of my options open and make the best decisions for me."

McGusty said the U of L offense and the way Pitino "let's his guards play really suits my game."

"I just have to see, if they make my top five then I want to get on campus," he said.
