Petrino provides pre-camp update

Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino visited with the media on Wednesday to provide the latest as the Cardinals prepare to open fall camp on Thursday.

University of Louisville is set to begin fall camp on Thursday and head coach Bobby Petrino, along with his two coordinators, Todd Grantham and Garrick McGee, each provided pre-camp updates at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Petrino, who said that he's "fired up" for the start of practice, spent 10 minutes chatting with the press.

He announced the official additions of DeVante Fields, Chandler Jones and last minute offensive line walk-on Toriano Roundtree, and also confirmed that James Allen was a non-qualifier.

Petrino also provided an injury update, announcing that sophomore defensive lineman De'Asian Richardson suffered a knee injury and will out for a lengthy time, possibly the season. Sophomore tight end Keith Towbridge continues to recover from a toe injury and may not be available during the first few days of camp. Quarterback Will Gardner has completely recovered from his third knee injury and is available to practice immediately.

Attention to special teams, where a new long-snapper and punter are needed has remained a focus of the coaching staff throughout the off season and it will receive significant attention during fall practice.

The Cardinals will hold four practices that will be open to the public, beginning on Saturday and Sunday. The veterans will work out first at 2:30 p.m., while the newcomers hit the field at 6:30 p.m., on each of those two days. The final two practices open to the public are on Monday and Tuesday at 4:20 p.m.

With the split practices, Petrino announced that freshman Lamar Jackson and junior Tyler Ferguson will work as the quarterbacks with the newcomers practices.
