U of L QBs talk position battle

The University of Louisville has a battle going on to become the starting quarterback this season. Here's a few comments from each of the four players in the mix to become the U of L starting QB.

It's a good battle to become the starting quarterback of the University of Louisville football team.

The Cardinals have multiple players trying to earn playing time for the Cardinals this season, led by three guys - Will Gardner, Reggie Bonnafon and Kyle Bolin - who not only started games last season but also had victories.

Gardner started seven and was the starter to open the season, while Bonnafon started five games and won at Notre Dame. Bolin came in for the injured Bonnafon and threw for 381 yards and won the Kentucky game and started in the Belk Bowl.

And then there's ultra-talented freshman Lamar Jackson.

U of L coach Bobby Petrino said he's in no hurry to name a starter, but we get to hear from all four. Here's a few comments:

Will Gardner, Junior

"I am good. I had some general soreness early on. Every morning I feel good - just some soreness - but a lot of that goes to the trainers. They really had me ready to go and I am happy with where I'm at."

"It's just competing every day. Anything can happen and we're just all out here competing, working hard and having fun with it. We have to have fun with it all at the end of the day."

"I feel like I am back to a good spot. It can always get better but I feel good right now. I feel like as far as condition-wise, I am in a good spot and I am back to where I wanted to be."

Reggie Bonnafon, Sophomore

"Every day we get a chance to work together is a lot of fun. All of us are great quarterbacks, great competitors, great teammates and great friends. We're just working hard."

"We're not even sure (how the QB will be picked). We'll leave that to (the coaches) and we'll just try to come out every day and try to improve and get better. We're just working hard to get better."

"I'm better than I was last year. I've worked hard to get bigger and I think I've improved a lot."

Kyle Bolin, Junior

"I think I'm a lot better. I'm bigger and stronger and I feel like I have improved a lot since last year. A whole lot.."

"I'm doing well but at the end of the day a few mistakes here and there. I just need to make sure to clean it up."

"I don't look at it as a competition at all, I just try to come out here and improve every day. I try to come out here and throw the ball around and hope to help us win ball games. I can't control what anybody else does out here."

Lamar Jackson, Freshman

"It's been fun but the guys are a lot quicker here. In high school, I just would out run people. But you can't do that here."

"I'm learning a lot from the other guys. On the sidelines, they're really helping me. Hopefully, I will play. I want to play."
