Papa John's Cardinal Stadium is expanding once again.

The home to the University of Louisville football program will get a facelift soon as U of L athletic director Tom Jurich announced plans for the expansion on Thursday night to the school's 50-Yard Line Booster Club.

Three sources confirmed to Cardinal Authority prior to the dinner that Jurich was set to make the announcement. He will make an official announcement at a press conference on Friday morning at 11 a.m.

U of L football coach Bobby Petrino is expected to be at the announcement.

Jurich has said a few times in recent months that the schools was exploring the possibility of expanding. He said in a recent interview that he was unsure of a timetable for the announcement.

But it came on Thursday night.

While the plans are still not publicly disclosed, several sources told Cardinal Authority that Jurich announced he would close the north end of the stadium with the expansion. It would seat 10,000-12,000 more fans and cost around $55 million.

The project is also expected to include more club level suites and the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex would be expended in the process of this expansion.
