Just over a week until kickoff, the University of Louisville announced on Friday morning that it has sold out of its allotment - 31,000 - of tickets for the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
The Cardinals will face Auburn at 3:30 p.m. next Saturday.
While Auburn announced a sell out recently, the Cardinals had a few tickets remaining heading into this week and sent out a release early Friday morning saying the tickets were now gone.
“To sell over 30,000 tickets to a neutral site game in September is a great testament to our terrific fan base and their willingness to support our program at any location," U of L athletic director Tom Jurich said. “Having the opportunity to play a top-10 teams like Auburn in a game as prestigious as the Chick-fil-A Game, speaks volumes to the commitment of our fans and a great way to open the season."
The Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic also announced on Friday the game was a complete sell out. A release from the folks in Georgia said "no tickets remain for public sale." It's the first neutral site game for the '15 season to sell out.
“When you get two historically successful, top-25 teams with fan bases as passionate as Auburn and Louisville, you know you’re going to have a tough ticket,” Peach Bowl president Gary Stokan said. "What a great way to kick off the season with an electric, bowl-like atmosphere with two ranked teams in front of a packed crowd in Atlanta and national TV audience on CBS."
The game can be seen on CBS.
