Freshman Deng Adel scored 35 points in the win

Deng Adel scored 35 points to lead the Red squad to a 97-81 win in Louisville's scrimmage on Saturday afternoon.

The University of Louisville men's basketball team took another step towards the start of the 2015-16 season on Saturday afternoon, with the program's second Red-White scrimmage of the preseason.

The Red Team, which started Mangok Mathiang, Anas Mahmoud, Deng Adel, David Levitch and Donovan Mitchell, jumped out to a quick first half lead and maintained its advantage throughout the contest for a 97-81 win over the White Team at the KFC Yum! Center.

Attacking the rim frequently, the Red Team drew multiple fouls, including three on White Team starters Jaylen Johnson, Chinanu Onuaku and Quentin Snider during the first half.  Freshman Deng Adel led the Red squad with 22 first half points on 7 of 10 shooting, plus 7 of 8 from the charity stripe. Mathiang added 11 points and Mitchell 10 points to give the Red Team a 47-35 halftime advantage. Damion Lee paced the White Team with 24 points during the opening frame.

The second half saw David Levitch, who finished four of six on three-point attempts, fuel the Red Team scoring with 19 points in the final frame. Adel finished with a game-high 35 points for the Red Team, with Mitchell (18) and Mathiang (15) also reaching double-figures. For the White, Lee added 11 points in the second half to finish with the game's only double-double at 33 points and 13 rebounds. Trey Lewis (13) and Snider (12) also reached double-figures for the White.

Up next for Louisville is an exhibition contest against Bellarmine on Nov. 1.
