Louisville women's basketball team ranked No. 8 in the preseason Associated Press poll

The University of Louisville women's basketball program landed a top-10 preseason ranking for the fourth time in school history as the Cardinals were ranked No. 8 in the Associated Press preseason poll.

It's another top-10 preseason ranking for the University of Louisville women's basketball program.

The Cardinals have now been ranked in the top 10 in four preseason polls and begin the season in the preseason Associated Press top 10 - ranked at No. 8 - for the fourth time in school history.

"We're excited about this group and about this season," U of L coach Jeff Walz said. "This is going to be a fun group to watch and we start with some tough competition. We're excited about the season."

Connecticut was ranked No. 1, followed by South Carolina, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Baylor, Ohio State and Florida State.

Based on the preseason poll, the Cardinals face eight top-25 opponents: Notre Dame (No. 3), Florida State (No. 7), Duke (No. 14), Kentucky (No. 18), South Florida (No. 20), North Carolina (No. 22), Syracuse (No. 23), and Michigan State (No. 24).

The Cardinals return two top scorers - Mariya Moore and Myisha Hines-Allen - from last season and have the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. U of L finished 27-7 last season and was third in the ACC.

The Cardinals are picked to finish third in the ACC this season. The opener is Nov. 15 against California.
