University of Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and defensive end Devonte Fields met with the media on Wednesday night after practice. The Cardinals will play host to Syracuse on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

Grantham confirmed that senior defensive lineman Sheldon Rankins, who missed the second half last week with a leg injury, has practiced all week and is expected to play against the Orange.

Grantham also had high praise for Trevon Young, who has eight sacks in the past three games, and said Devonte Fields has "had his best two games," in the past two weeks. He recovered the fumble to end the Wake Forest drive in the final few minutes last week.

The Cardinals rank No. 17 in total defense, allowing just 309.3 yards a game in eight games this season. U of L is allowing just 4.72 yards per game and rank No. 13 nationally by allowing just 893 yards rushing this season.

"We're still trying to get better," Grantham said. "We want to get better each and every week."
