University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino met with the media on Thursday afternoon, announcing the 2016 recruiting class, talking about the improved condition of former U of L player Kyle Kuric and previewing Friday's opener against Samford.
The Cardinals signed V.J. King and Frankie Hughes on Wednesday and Pitino called the class "exactly what we needed. We have everybody coming back off this team, so we had to fill out needs and we did that."
Pitino called the news about Kuric, who had brain surgery last week in Spain, "the best news" he's heard in a while. Kuric took a turn for the worse on Saturday but is now up and alert. Pitino said he texted with Kuric on Thursday morning.
Louisville won both of its exhibition games and will open the regular-season against Samford, a team that went 13-19 last season and is coached by former Kentucky player Scott Padgett. Pitino coached Padgett, who is from Louisville, at UK.
The opener will be at 7 p.m. and is on ESPN3.
