Northwest Mississippi C.C. defensive tackle Chris Williams will be among the large group of recruits visiting over the weekend as Louisville hosts Virginia for its final home game of the season. While most visitors will making an unofficial visit, spending time at the game on Saturday, Williams will arrive on Friday afternoon for an official visit.
The 6-foot-1, 280-pound Williams teamed with current Cardinals Shaq Wiggins and Ja'Quay Williams at Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek and has discussed the U of L program with both. This will be his first trip to the Derby City.
"I don't know to much about it, except for what Shaq and Ja'Quay tell me," he said. "We're real cool and they tell me a lot about it."
Williams committed to Ole Miss out of high school over offers from Tennessee, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, South Carolina, Vandy, Texas A&M, Kentucky and others. Making his second round in the recruiting process, Williams priority is to find a coaching staff that he believes in.
"I'm not really in the facilities because every big school has nice facilities," he explained. "I'm just looking for a coaching staff that I would like to play for."
L.D. Scott serves as Williams primary recruiter for the Cardinals and if the visit goes as anticipated, the former U of L lineman turned assistant coach will secure another verbal commitment. The trip is currently the only one that Williams has planned.
"Louisville is the only one that I have set in stone," he said.
As for a list of favorites, Williams explained that currently there is Louisville and every one else.
"Top of the list, number one," he said, adding it's "very possible" that he could end his recruitment with a commitment to the Cardinals while in town.
