Cardinals check in at No. 2 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper preseason rankings

Louisville baseball receives preseason Top 10 ranking for fourth consecutive season

With the bulk of its roster returning from a squad that won the ACC regular season title in 2015, Louisville baseball received the program's highest-ever preseason ranking on Monday morning.

Collegiate Baseball Newspaper released its initial ranking for the 2016 season and placed the Cardinals No. 2 in the publication's 'Fabulous 40'.  Louisville is among seven ACC teams in the Top 40, including six in the Top 25.  Miami and Virginia join Louisville in the Top 10.

Florida tops the poll, with Vanderbilt, Miami and Texas A&M rounding out the top five.  Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Oregon State, Virginia and UCLA fill out the top ten.

The Cardinals are slated to open the 2016 schedule with a four-game homestand, beginning on Friday, Feb. 19 for a three-game set against SIU-Edwardsville.  U of L will host Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, Feb. 23 before heading to Oxford, Miss., for a weekend series at Ole Miss.

Seven opponents are ranked among Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's Top 40, with another five among those also receiving votes.
