Louisville football swept a hot chicken eating contest and a songwriting and performance competition on Sunday at the Music City Bowl

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville football team swept the hot chicken eating contest and a songwriting and performance competition on Sunday night at the Music City Bowl welcome party at the Wildhorse Saloon.

University of Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino said his team is on a business trip to play Texas A&M, but also noted he wanted to keep a balance and let the Cardinals' "have some fun" on the trip.

And that's what they did on Sunday night.

The Cardinals had fun sweeping the 'fun' competitions at the Music City Bowl welcome part on Sunday night at the Wildhorse Saloon in downtown Nashville. The game is slated for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night.

The songwriting competition saw five players from each team go backstage with a local songwriter and come up with words to a song they would then perform on stage. The U of L players were Colin Holba, JaQuay Savage, Cole Hikutini, Jaire Alexander and Jaylen Smith.

Here's video of the winning performance:

The Cardinals also won the hot chicken eating contest. The chicken was the 'hot' not the hottest they have at Hattie B's Hot Chicken in Nashville. Each of five players had a plate in front of them.

The U of L players were DeAngelo Brown, Kiola Mahoni, Griffin Uhl, T.C. Klusman and Khalil Hunter.

In the 3-minute competition, the two teams tied and then Uhl had a 1-on-1 for a minute and he tied. Hunter then won the competition for the Cardinals, eating three tenders in one minute of the final eat off.
