The Louisville women's team wins an eighth straight game, beating Virginia Tech 56-45

The University of Louisville women's basketball team won an eighth straight game on Thursday night, beating Virginia Tech 56-45 before 7,891 fans at the KFC Yum Center. The Cardinals are now 11-5 on the season.

It's eight straight for the University of Louisville women's basketball team.

The Cardinals started the season 1-4 but have won 10 of its past 11 games, including eight straight after a 56-45 victory over Virginia Tech - which had won 11 straight - on Thursday night at the KFC Yum Center.

Sophomore Myisha Hines-Allen had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cardinals, while Briahanna Jackson added 13 points.

The Cardinals forced the Hokies into 21 turnovers and held them to just 16 of 43 - 37.2 percent - from the field. Virginia Tech had won 11 in a row, including at Tennessee.

U of L took hold of the game in the second period, outscoring the Hokies 18-5. It was the fourth double-double of the season for Hines-Allen, who hit 7 of 17 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line. 

“Our win against Georgia Tech, I think is going to be a good win by the end of the year because Tech is going to win some ball games,” U of L coach Jeff Walz said. "Our win against Florida State; the Michigan State win. We’ve had some really good wins and this Virginia Tech win is going to be one too because they’re really good. I’m really impressed with how well they play."

Up next for the Cardinals will be a home game on Sunday at 1 o'clock against Duke.
