Judge overturns NCAA rule on exempt tourneys Courier-Journal
A federal judge's ruling yesterday overturned an NCAA rule prohibiting Division I basketball teams from playing in more than two exempt tournaments in a four-year period.
We'll start in the East, where the player with the most promise is 6-5 shooting guard J.R. Smith. Yes, I'm supposed to say point guard Sebastian Telfair. Maybe if Telfair remembers he is a point guard, I'll change my mind.
For now, I'll go with Smith. He doesn't have enough game in between his above-the-rim athleticism and stunning 3-point shooting. But he is a great shooter with range and a quick release, and he'll excel as a defender with good coaching.
