Former USC defensive backs coach Keith Heyward will be the new defensive backs coach at the University of Louisville

Former USC defensive backs coach Keith Heyward will be named a new assistant coach at the University of Louisville. Heyward is expected in town on Wednesday but no official announcement from U of L is expected until later in the week.

The University of Louisville head coach has hired former USC defensve backs coach and defensive passing game coordiantor Keith Heyward to replace Terrell Buckley, who left to take a job at Mississippi State.

The 34-year-old Heyward is a graduate of Oregon State and played one season in the Canadian Football League and also NFL Europe before starting his coaching career at his alma mater.

He spent one season as the linebackers coach at Cal-Poly before headingback to Oregon State as a secondary coach from 2008-11. He spent two years at Washington as the secondary coach - both top 25 finishes nationally in pass defense.

Heyward has been at USC the past two seasons and was recently dismissed with the head coaching change.

A strong recruiter, Heyward has a ton of West Coast ties. He's signed eight of his prospects the past two seasons for the Trojans, including six four-star prospects and two five-star players.

Heyward is a native of Woodland Hills, Calif.
