Louisville welcomes Pittsburgh to the KFC Yum! Center on Thursday night for a matchup of a pair of Top 25 teams for an key ACC contest.
The Cardinals (13-3, 2-1) will face a Panthers (14-1) team that U of L head coach Rick Pitino described as a "veteran ball club that statistically does some scary things."
No. 20 Pitt is lead by senior point guard James Robinson, who in addition averaging 10.5 points per game, is leading the nation in assist to turnover ratio at 6.75 to 1 and his 3.58 to 1 career ratio is the best in NCAA history.
"Their point guard as the best assist to turnover ratio in the history of the ACC," Pitino said on Wednesday. "You know how many great point guards there have been."
In addition to the strong defense and rebounding efforts that are common with the Jamie Dixon coached Panthers, they are also the nation's best in drawing fouls and capitalizing at the charity stripe. Pitt has made more free throws (298) than its opponents have attempted (282) on the year. The Panthers have a +122-point margin in points off free throws
"We're going to have to play much better defense than we've played to come away with a victory and we're still working on becoming a defensive team," said Pitino.
