London Iakopo, a four-star junior college safety, was among those dozen official visitors at Louisville during the past weekend and has become one of the priority recruits that the Cardinals coaching staff have made a priority during the final weeks of the recruiting period.
Currently an Arizona commitment, Iakopo, who has three years to play two following his time at Long Beach City College, made the trip east to gain a greater knowledge of what opportunities exist.
"It was a great visit," he told Cardinal Authority. "I was able to see a lot and had a great time visiting the coaches and getting to know the players. It really gave a larger perspective of what is out there for me."
Hosted by offensive lineman and fellow native Californian Kiola Mahoni, Iakopo (6'1, 210) also toured the U of L campus, football facilties, and part of the city while in town. His experience left a strong impression and has placed Louisville among the schools he'll consider heavily before signing his Letter of Intent on National Signing Day.
"I'm still committed to Arizona, but I'm willing to check out any opportunity," he said. "It certainly puts them up there."
Iakopo is also considering Missouri, Iowa State, Washington State and others. The Louisville staff has since followed up with the standout safety, with Cardinals recruiting assistant Cort Dennison making an in-home visit on Tuesday evening.
Iakopo racked up 58 tackles, two sacks, 7.5 tackles for a loss, forced a fumble, blocked three kicks and collected two interceptions to earn first team all-conference honors during his second season at Long Beach.
