Louisville lands a verbal commitment from Oklahoma running back Dae Williams; recent de-commitment from SMU

The University of Louisville football staff has landed commitment No. 22 in the Class of 2016 as Oklahoma running back Dae Williams, who de-committed from SMU earlier this week, gave his verbal commitment to the Cardinals on Thursday night.

Bobby Petrino has his next running back.

Sapulpa, Okla., High School power back Dae Williams de-committed from SMU earlier this week and on Thursday night announced he had committed to the University of Louisville.

The Cardinals had been in search of another back for the Class of 2016. Williams made an official visit to campus last weekend and appeared to be one of the top two targets for the staff in recent weeks.

The 6-foot, 240-pound Williams averaged 7.3 yards a carry as a senior and was also looking at SMU and Tulsa.

"They've always been one of my favorite schools and have always been one that I've been considering," Williams said after the visit. "Now knowing what they have to offer really puts them up there."

Williams was recruited by offensive coordinator Garrick McGee, who made a visit to see him on Thursday.

Williams, a standout at linebacker also in high school, was one of the top running backs in the state of Oklahoma this season. In nine games, Williams finished with 1,673 yards and 19 touchdowns.

He's commitment No. 22 in the '16 class for the Cardinals.
