Marietta (Ga.) Kell offensive lineman James DeMatto is a Louisville Cardinal. The 6-foot-4, 280-pound guard was among the large group of recruits making an official visit with Louisville during the final weekend of the recruiting cycle and left as a Cardinal commitment.
"The visit went good," he said. "I'm committed and will be signing on the 3rd."
DeMatto was hosted by freshman offensive lineman Chandler Jones, a fellow Georgian.
"I've known Chad, so we hung out the whole time," he said. "We had a great time."
In addition to enjoying time with fellow visitors and members of the Cardinals team, DeMatto also spent time discussing his future with the U of L coaching staff. Those discussions included the chance of becoming a grayshirt signee, which would provide him additional time to prepare for the start of his college career.
"The coaches were very welcoming," he said. "Right now I might be a grayshirt and come in the summer. I would come in with next year's class, which let me get ahead a little bit on next year. We'll wait until Wednesday to know for sure."
DeMatto, who could play guard or center at U of L, explained that an official visit with the Cardinals program was "the only one that I wanted to take."
"It has always been a favorite school and was a dream school to go to," he said. "To have the opportunity to get an offer from them, I had to take it."
