Louisville bounced back from its worst ever defeat at the KFC Yum! Center with a 71-65 win over No. 2 North Carolina on Monday night.
The 19th-ranked Cardinals received a game-high 24 points from Damian Lee, with Chinanu Onuaku adding 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Donovan Mitchell 10 points to lead the team to victory. Louisville connected on 53 percent of its second half field goal attempts to grab the lead for good with just over 15 minutes remaining in the game.
The Cardinals defense held the Tarheels, which entered the contest among the nation's top 20 shooting teams, to just 38 percent from the floor. U of L out-scored UNC 17-7 on second chance points and 36-38 in the paint.
Louisville improves to 17-4 overall, and 7-2 in ACC play. North Carolina falls to 19-3, 8-1. The win pulls the Cardinals within a game of first-place UNC in the ACC.
Up next for U of L is a home contest against Boston College on Saturday at noon.
