Clinton, Miss., Lamarques Thomas has signed to play at the University of Louisville; hard hitting safety in the fold for Cardinals

Hard-hitting safety Lamarques Thomas from Clinton, Miss., has signed to play at the University of Louisville. Thomas stayed with the Cardinals after a coaching change in recent weeks.

Former University of Louisville assistant Terrell Buckley went back to Mississippi to land a good one in September when Clinton High School's LaMarques Thomas, who committed to the Cardinals over Mississippi State and Mississippi.

Thomas said he "loved everything about" Louisville at the time of his commitment.

But last month Buckley left and Thomas was in limbo. He thought about looking around but said last week that he felt like Louisville was "a second home" and opted to stay committed.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Thomas made an official visit last weekend and was sold.

"I loved it and I'm glad I stayed committed," he said. "I like the coaches and love the school and campus. I'm excited to get there and start working. It's the place that I wanted to be."

The hard-hitting safety had a dozen other offers and is ranked as the No. 5 safety prospect in Mississippi and the No. 114 safety in the country. He's a three-star prospect.
