University of Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino has had a lot of luck with local stars in his past.
Petrino is hoping the next local star is Keion Wakefield.
The Male High School stsndout wide receiver signed with the Cardinals on Wednesday. He had committed to U of L last summer.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Wakefield helped Male win a Class 6-A state title in Kentucky this season. His senior season was hampered by injuries, but Wakefield was still a factor for the Bulldogs.
In the state title win over Lafayette, Wakefield had four receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound speedster, struggled with an injury throughout his senior season. He missed a few early season games, eventually playing seven games to finish with 15 receptions for 287 yards and four touchdowns.
