Darius Garland is one of the top 2018 targets for the University of Louisville men's basketball staff.
And the Nashville, Tenn., Brentwood Academy point guard sure did pick a good first game to watch at the KFC Yum Center. Garland was at the Cardinals' victory over Duke on Saturday before a raucous crowd.
"Awesome," Garland said of the visit. "It was such a great atmosphere. It was just really cool seeing the crowd so involved and the players getting so excited and making big shot after big shot.
"It was really cool to see it all."
The 6-foot Garland is considered the No. 9 prospect in the '18 class, according to Scout.com, and landed an offer from Louisville last summer. He came to watch a practice in July but this was his first trip to the Yum Center.
"It's a great place to watch a game," Garland said. "We really enjoyed our time."
Garland said the U of L staff is still showing him a "whole lot of interest," along with other schools. He mentioned Ohio State, Connecticut and Texas as the schools showing him the most interest.
He said U of L coach Rick Pitino spent some time with him after the game.
"He told me how much he wanted me," Garland said. "He asked me how much I liked the game and I told him it was amazing."
Brentwood is 25-3 heading into the last week of the regular season.
