Following a pair of excellent starts to the 2016 season, Louisville sophomore Brendan McKay was chosen as the Pitcher of the Month by the National College Baseball Writers Association on Wednesday afternoon.
McKay made two starts during the season's first month, notching a pair of victories in 14 innings of work. Through two appearances on the mound, the left-hander has yet to surrender a run, totaled 16 strikeouts and only four walks. He's given up just six with opponents hitting a low .136 against him.
He was chosen as the ACC Player of the Week following his complete game shutout performance in the Cardinals 4-0 win at Ole Miss on Saturday. He struck out eight without a walk while extending his scoreless innings streak to 19.0.
The NCBWA also honored Southern Miss third baseman Taylor Braley as the National Hitter of the Month, who is hitting .480 with 12 RBI and 5 home runs on the young season.
The 4th-ranked Cardinals return to action on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Morehead State at Jim Patterson Stadium. First pitch is slated for 3p.m. and admission is free.
