In addition to an stellar group of signees that make up Louisville's 2016 recruiting class, an impressive collection of preferred walk-ons will help make up the incoming class of Cardinals.
Among the handful of recruits that have been invited to join the U of L roster as an invited walk-on is Paducah Tilghman long snapper Luke Massad. While the 6-foot-4, 230-pound athlete had multiple college options following his senior season, his desire from the beginning was to become a Cardinal.
"I wanted to go to Louisville long before football came into play," he told Cardinal Authority. "My brother and sister went there so I've always loved it, and my sister is a Louisville Lady."
Massad, who played multiple positions for Paducah Tilghman, wasn't ready to see his days playing football come to an end, so he reached out to the Cardinals coaching staff and quickly built a relationship with Dave Boller, U of L's director of on-campus recruiting.
"I played everywhere in high school and I couldn't give up playing football that easy," he said. "I sent in film and they got back with me and here I am now."
The relationship continued to grow throughout the 2015 season and during a visit Boller expressed the coaching staff's desire to have him join the team.
"During football season I talked with Dave Boller a lot," he continued. "Then he took me to a game on a visit and after that it was a done deal."
Massad will arrive on campus later this spring.
