Springfield, Ill., Sacred Heart-Griffin defensive tackle John Pempek spent the weekend in Louisville to attend the Cardinals annual Red-White spring game and have the opportunity to witness how the coaching staff works with the players.
"It was great" he said. "I really love their program and everything going on there. I had the chance to visit with (the coaches) and see how they work. Also, being able to see them in a game I was able to see how they do things and I liked how they ran it."
It was return to Louisville for the 6-foot-4, 300-pound prospect who began forming a relationship with U of L assistant Dave Boller, the program's Director of High School Relations, last year.
"My trainer that I work with has a relationship with him and he showed him my film," he explained. "We went last year for a camp and they asked me to stay in contact, then they invited me the spring game."
His latest visit resulted in another return invitation.
"They want me to come back and sign up for a camp," said Pempek. "They want to see how I do things and how I perform, so I'm hoping that I'll get something."
Pempek, who also plays along the offensive line at Sacred Heart-Griffin, will also camp at Northern Illinois and Southern Illinois during the coming weeks and interest from others continues to rise.
"It's kind of crazy because you're driving around everywhere and talking to everybody," he said of the recruiting process. "It's stressful, but I can't focus on it to much now because I need to focus on the season."
