Louisville is trying to tap into a Georgia connection again; Cardinals had Connor Heyward on campus and he talks about visit

Suwanee, Ga., Peachtree Ridge High School athlete Connor Heyward made an unofficial visit to Louisville last weekend. Heyward talks about the visit and his recruitment.

The University of Louisville football staff has had good luck at Suwanee, Ga., Peachtree Ridge High School. The powerhouse program in the Peach State is sending running back Malik Staples to the Cardinals next month.

And the Cardinals are in on a few other players from Peachtree Ridge, including Connor Heyward.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound three-star athlete has 10 offers, including one from the Cardinals, is the younger brother of former Ohio State and current Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward. His father, the late Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, played in the National Football League for 11 seasons.

The younger Heyward said he "loved everything about Louisville."

U of L defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has connections at Peachtree and has been recruiting Heyward. The player said he likes the staff and is going to take a long look at the Cardinals.

"I was shocked at how nice everything was," he said. "I like where the program is headed."

Heyward also has offers from Memphis, Arizona State, Iowa, Kansas State, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt and others, while also hearing from Georgia, Auburn and Clemson among others.

He said he isn't narrowing his list down until this summer.

"I don't have a top five or a top 10," he said. "I will come out with that this summer."
