Malik Staples, ranked as the No. 79 running back in the country by Scout.com, was watching his future teammates last weekend during the University of Louisville football spring game. And Staples said he was anxious.
The powerful 6-foot, 210-pound Staples turned down offers to Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina and signed with the Cardinals in February. He said he will arrive next month on campus.
"I thought it was amazing to be there," Staples said. "My mother and I loved it. I can't wait until I am up there so I can be part of the family. These guys are real deal brothers and that's what it's going to take to win a championship."
Staples could be a workhorse in the backfield for the Cardinals with a style similar to former U of L back Michael Bush.
And he's ready to get going once on campus.
"It was great seeing all the (recruits) and talking it up with them," he said. "We are all anxious to get up there and ball out."
