Louisville center Chinanu Onuaku is picked by the Houston Rockets in the second round - the No. 37 pick of the NBA Draft

Former University of Louisville center Chinanu Onuaku, who left school after his sophomore season, was selected by the Houston Rockets with the No. 37 pick - in the second round - of the NBA Draft on Thursday night.

The University of Louisville had a second-round pick by the Houston Rockets for the second straight year.

After picking Montrezl Harrell last year, the Rockets selected ex-U of L center Chinanu Onuaku with the 37th pick of the NBA Draft on Thursday night from the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Onuaku is the sixth draft pick from U of L in the last four years.

"He can run, he can block shots and he can rebound," ESPN's Jay Bilas said on the telecast. "He's raw on offense, but he's high up there on the defensive end and rebounding and that's why he's here."

After a freshman season that saw the 6-foot-9 Onuaku average three points and 4.5 rebounds a game, he transitioned into one of the best big men in the ACC. He helped the U.S. Men’s U19 World Championship Team win a gold medal last summer.

As a sophomore, Onuaku averaged nine points and 8.5 rebounds and had 11 double-doubles. He was selected to the All-ACC Defensive Team and garnered All-ACC honorable mention honors.
