Indianapolis Southport guard Paul Scruggs is one of the top Class of 2017 targets for the University of Louisville staff. The four-star prospect is ranked as the No. 37 player in the country and recently made a visit to U of L.
And Scruggs was impressed.
The 6-foot-4, 180-pound shooting guard said he's know U of L assistant coach Kenny Johnson for a while, noting Johnson started recruiting him when he was an assistant at Indiana.
“Louisville was nice; the facilities and the campus were all really nice," Scruggs said at the NBPA Top 100 camp. "I do have a good relationship with coach Johnson from the time he was at IU to the time he’s been at Louisville."
But Scruggs said the visit gave him a chance to get to know Hall of Fame head coach Rick Pitino a little more.
"Coach Pitino surprised me," Scruggs said. "The thing that surprised me the most was coach Pitino. He's very involved with his players even after they leave college and go off in the NBA.
"Coach Pitino really looks out for his players when they are in college and after college."
Scruggs said U of L has been recruiting him since Johnson arrived at U of L a few years ago, but noted they have really picked up the interest and he said the Cardinals' style was "really intriguing."
"They just really let their guards go," he said. "That's very intriguing to me."
Recently Scruggs narrowed his list to Illinois, Indiana, Xavier, Ohio State, Louisville, Michigan State, and Kansas. He made a visit to Xavier and has been there several times just before making the trip to Louisville.
Scruggs said he could make a decision towards the end of the summer.
