Fall Practice:  Day Eight...Two-a-Days

The second two-a-days of fall camp is now complete with two intense and fast paced practices in Thursday's heat. Attention to detail, work on fundamentals and a disciplined approach to the game appear early trademarks of a Bob Petrino coached team.  Easily the hottest day of camp, the Cards appeared to be a well conditioned group and seemed unaffected by the August heat.

The team practice at 9 a.m. on Friday that will mark the last open practice for fans to attend prior to the opening game at UK on Sunday, August 31 in Commonwealth Stadium.

Saturday morning, the Cards will really get after it in a closed to the public scrimmage and will begin to get down to the serious work of preparing for the opening game.

Here's our report from both Thursday's morning and afternoon practice sessions.

Position Breakdown

QB  For the most part, the quarterbacks threw the ball well again on Thursday.  Stefan LeFors hooked up with WR Broderick Clark for nice gains.  LeFors threw a ten yard TD pass during morning work....Michael Bush and Justin Rascati each threw an interception.

WR Robert Haskins (ITV)

WR/TE  Broderick Clark really caught the ball on Thursday and was a favorite target of Stefan LeFors on the outside.  J.R. Russell also had a real good day catching the ball and was particularly effective going over the middle of the field.  Joshua Tinch hauled in some nice receptions over the middle as well. Robert Haskins may have had the catch of the day when he pulled in a diving reception along the sideline.

DL  Montavious Stanley penetrated the backfield a couple times on Thursday and had a TFL.  Tyrone Saterfield and Marcus Jones also played well and made some plays on the line.

LB  Brandon Johnson had a great practice on Thursday, intercepting passes during both the morning and afternoon session.  He ran back his INT of Stefan LeFors for a touchdown during the afternoon session.  Robert McCune came back strong from his stomach virus and broke up a pass downfield intended for TE Richard Owens.

Antoine Harris (ITV)

DB  Antoine Harris's move to the secondary appears a permanent one.  He covered well again today and broke up a pass intended for WR J.R. Russell.  Harris also can hit hard.  S Abe Brown intercepted a Justin Rascati pass and CB J.T. Haskins broke up a pass during the afternoon session.  CB Early McCray played well and broke up a pass during the scrimmage.

K/P  K Nate Smith connected from 52 yards out at the end of Thursday's practice session.  Wade Tydlacka and Rob Zarrilli are kicking off well, both driving some kickoffs into the endzone.
